COMMITTED ARTIST

The notion of the border between reality and imaginary, or reality and dream ; and the commitment to social causes have always been part of me and my work. Through my writings, drawings, paintings and photographs, my work is part of a universe that questions the notions of philosophy, the real and the immaginary, the place of women in our contemporary societies, ecology ....

Influenced by flagship movements like Dadaism, Surrealism or psychedelia, I am particularly interested in contemporary youth and its drifts including current but also future generations.

As any artist, I unfortunately do not escape from this strong feeling that our society does not understand its current population and has not created a suitable space for the citizens who do not recognize themselves in the pre-founded molds in which must fit every citizen. I am deeply convinced that today's youth struggles to find its place within our society and that their drifts comes from this feeling of incomprehension and abandonment. So I try to denounce and inform, through my work, of the deviations experienced by these young people lost and left to their own devices. Please note the word drift is not negative and does not come from any judgment.

COMMITTED THEMES

Coming from of a brief Fine Arts cursus and a contemporary generation where everything is fast and consumable, a generation lost between the quest for the greatest number of aesthetic pleasures and hedonistic nature, my work is part of an approach committed to a whistleblower goal. Face to this youth in constant search of adequacy between the framework demanded by society and the attempt of trying to extract itself with provocation, abuse and other extra deviant behavior (violence, suicid...), my research and work offer a colorful, flash, trashy and provocative vision of this contemporary trend of youth lifestyle.

Different themes can be found in my research. Here are a few non-exhaustive examples below:

  • The hyper-sexualization of women, perceived as objects of desire and therefore depersonalized to their sexual attribute

  • The notion of time and its flow in front of a disorganized youth and a society growing and improving as fast as new technologies.

  • Soft and hard drugs as a real fashion trend and a sense of identification

  • The fascination for guns and casino games

  • The obsessive race for money

  • The omnipresent part of IT bias in the social construction of youth

  • The notion of uncontrollable and omnipresent surveillance (From society by society through social networks but also a categorization of behavior and citizen identity.)

  • The pressing need to create an identity through social difference (Piercing, Tattoos, extravagant makeup, rejection of social codes ...)

My work offers a vision that denounces the heavy social and moral codes imposed by society as well as the conformism designed to frame and fit each type of citizen into a mold, a vision in which this new contemporary youth struggles to find itself. This proposition interpreted by youth through a trashy, hedonistic, violent, interested, lost, perverse, disgusting and disgusted, misunderstood and shameless representation, with, on the one hand, the goal of denouncing an overly conservative society that is struggling to evolve with the times and to adapt to welcome these "new young people", causing and encouraging these perverse effects and these deviant behaviors as a call. On the other hand, if my research aims to demonstrate that we need a societal reaction to these new eras, creating new social trends and behaviors specific to young people, they also denounce certain attitudes commonly adapted by these new generations (such as the conscious and unconscious hyper-sexualization of women, often adopted through an unhealthy and unflattering gaze).

Techniques

My techniques and supports are mixed. Most of the time I use canvases on which I practice collage, colored bombs application, the use of different painting medium (acrylic, gouache, ink, oil, and/or watercolor). I start preliminary with drawings and sketches to carry out my research, which I use to carry out the layouts (Search for full and empty spaces) and to create new sequences of shapes. The colors are very often flashy because it is for me a way to represent the essence of revolution and the break with conformism and conservatism. It therefore seemed natural to me to use it in the goal of denouncing and informing from a youth point of view. Revolution, in an ideology of total rejection while shouting out its differences and its discomfort, is flashy for me. The work of accumulation through colors and shapes makes it possible to give real meaning by creating this feeling of being lost and drowned through the many elements and all the information. The spectator is thus lost in the painting and seeks the real meaning of the painting, just as today's youth seeks a meaning in the place they should find for themselves in the society where they seem to have lost their identity.

VISION & OBJECTIVES

The objective of my work is to be able to bring together individuals who identify themselves within my work and to express a real problem with an interpretation that is sometimes deliberately exaggerated but sincere and generous. The goal is also to create dialogue between generations but also between individuals coming from different social classes. Like any artist, I express myself through each painting. Fear, disgust, fascination, desire, incomprehension, envy are all feelings that we can find in my work. I started the theme of this work 6 years ago.

Do not hesitate to open discussions and give me your feedback, I am very happy to be able to share a real exchange and to build the rest of my research with your comments.
